About The SAT

The SAT is the test used by most colleges to help decide whether to admit students or not (along with GPA, transcript, recommendations, etc.). Not all schools require the SAT, but the great majority do.

SAT fee?

$41.50 for SAT, $18 for Subject tests. Add $21.50 for late registration.

How Long Is It?

3 hours, 45 minutes

How Is It Scored?

There are 3 sections: Critical Reading, Math, and Writing. Each section is scored from 200 to 800. The lowest score you can get on the SAT is a 600; the highest score is a 2400.

SAT Math Section

How many math questions are on the SAT?

54 Math questions on the SAT. 44, multiple-choice, problem solving questions and 10, student produced grid-in questions.

What concepts are tested?

Basic Arithmetic, Algebra 1 &II, and Geometry.

Can I use calculator?

Yes

How is it scored?

200-800 points. You get 200 points for signing your name and each question you get right gets you closer to an 800 perfect score.

SAT Critical Reading

How many verbal questions are on the SAT?

67 Critical Reading questions on the SAT. You'll have three sections; 2, 25-minute sections and 1, 20-minute section.

SAT Essay (Writing Section)

How many writing questions and essays are on the SAT?

49 Grammar questions on the SAT. You'll have three sections; 1, 25-minute section, 1, 10-minute section, and 1, 25 minute essay.

What type of writing questions are on the SAT?

3 question types: Identifying Sentence Errors, Improving Sentences, and Improving Paragraphs. These questions test you on your grammar, word choice, and usage. You'll have 25 minutes to write an essay.

How is it scored?

Your essay grade and your performance on the multiple choice section are combined to create one score between 200-800 points.
